Genesis

The Background
The Genesis was started by Lynne Johnston (past Computer Teacher).  She published it once a term as a practical extension of her Typing and Computer classes.  It assisted some students with their studies for the new unit standards.

Factors Behind the Extension to a Weekly Paper

1. Murray Whitworth (Past Principal) wanted to get our school newsletter into every household in our community.  This was because our school belongs to the whole community and relies on the goodwill and support of everyone on the Tokomairiro Plain.
2. When the Southern Gazette stopped its free publication to our households -a gap developed for the communication of local news and activities.  There was a need in our community for a means of communication local events.
3. Our town is a very good place to live in with a wide variety of activities and events.  There was a need for the promotion of all the many positive things that happen here.
4. One of the great resources our town has is its young people.  Greandparents, neighbours, aunts and uncles want to share in the success and activities of our young people.  There was a need for a medium by which we could communicat the successes and activites fo children in all the schools in our community.

The Genesis has grown from strength to strenghth over the last 14 years.
