Uniform and Grooming

Each student must be neatly dressed with the correct uniform and footwear.

The School’s aim is to encourage and develop self-respect and pride in appearance.  It expects parents to support and supervise the wearing of the school uniform and to insist on the highest standards of dress and grooming.

The School, at all times, reserves the right to decide whether standards of personal dress and grooming are acceptable and to take whatever actions are considered appropriate when standards are unsatisfactory.

Our high standards of dress require students to wear shirts tucked in, ties done up properly, boys socks up, trousers and shorts worn at waist level, and no singlets or T-shirts to be visible.

Uniform is to be worn to, from and at school and may also be required on school trips and functions outside normal school hours.

Any departure from school uniform will be permitted only after a satisfactory reason has been given in writing to the Principal or Deputy Principals.  This is for temporary exemptions only. The Board of Trustees must be contacted in writing with any request for a long-term departure from school uniform.

Students in uniform must be clean-shaven.  Beards and/or moustaches are not permitted.  This means that all male students with obvious facial hair will be required to shave.

The only jewellery, apart from watches, which may be worn with school uniform, is one stud in each ear.  Items of religious or cultural importance may be worn, provided they are not visible.  No cosmetics are permitted while in school uniform.

Hair is to be well groomed and reasonable in style and length as approved by the School.  Long hair (both girls and boys) should be tied back for hygiene, safety and for neatness and grooming.

Winter uniform is to be worn throughout Terms 2 and 3 and on all school trips where uniform is required, and on special occasions e.g. prize givings.  Summer Uniform is an option in Terms 1 and 4.

The school PTA helps parents with second-hand items of uniform for sale.  This second-hand uniform shop is in the school administration block, and parents may use it at any time during school hours by contacting the School office.  Items for sale must be clean and pressed, and kilts should have a dry-cleaning tag attached.

Cycle helmets must be worn by cyclists.

Year 12 and 13 Students have the option of wearing school uniform or senior uniform.
